If you are an undocumented individual, a work permit would allow you to work lawfully in the United States. It also gives you the opportunity to apply for a driver’s license and a social security number. However, in order to apply for a work permit, there must be a legal basis. For example, you may be eligible to receive a work permit if you have one of the following cases:

  • Pending application for green card
  • Pending asylum
  • TPS
  • DACA
  • Approved visa, an order of supervision or deferred action
